The journey starts in Manali, a popular tourist destination located in Himachal Pradesh. After spending a day exploring the town, you set out towards Sarchu, which is around 220 km from Manali. The road passes through the recently constructed Atal tunnel, which is located at an altitude of 3071 meters. You spend the night in Sarchu, which is a small hamlet located at an altitude of 4,290 meters.
The next day, you start your journey towards Leh, the capital of Leh-Ladakh. The ride from Sarchu to Leh is around 250 km and takes 10 hours. The road passes through some of the most remote areas of Ladakh, and the view is stunning. The mountains look like they have been painted in different shades of brown, and the valleys are dotted with small villages. You reach Leh in the evening and can spend the rest of the evening exploring the town.
The next day, you ride towards Nubra Valley, which is around 150 km from Leh. The road passes through the Khardung La Pass, which used to be the highest motorable pass in the world at an altitude of 5,359 meters. The view from the pass is stunning, with snow-capped mountains and glaciers in the distance. The ride toward Nubra Valley is a bit bumpy, but the view is worth it. The valley is famous for its sand dunes and double-humped camels. You spend the night in Nubra Valley, and take in the beautiful view of a million stars in a clear night sky.
The next day, you ride towards Turtuk, which is a small village located near the India-Pakistan border. The ride from Nubra Valley to Turtuk is around 80 km and takes around 4 hours. The road passes through some of the most remote areas of Ladakh, and the view is breathtaking. The village is located at an altitude of around 3,000 meters and is famous for its stunning views of the mountains. In the evening, you ride back to Nubra Valley and relax at the campsite with bonfire.
The next day, you ride towards Pangong Tso, a high-altitude lake at 4,350 meters. The ride from Thang Village to Pangong Tso is around 200 km and takes around 8 hours. The road passes through some of the most remote areas of Ladakh, and the view is breathtaking. The lake is famous for its changing colors, and it looks like a painting with different shades of blue and green. You spend the night near the lake, and the view of the stars at night was mesmerizing.
After spending a day near Pangong Tso, you ride toward Leh, where you spend a day exploring the town and getting some rest. From Leh, you ride toward Kargil, which is around 220 km from Leh. The road passes through some of the most beautiful landscapes of Ladakh, and the view is stunning. You reach Kargil in the evening and spend the night exploring the town.
The next day, you ride towards Srinagar, which is around 200 km from Kargil. The road passes through the Zoji La Pass, which is located at an altitude of 3,528 meters. The ride uphill is quite a task due to the stones and loose sand instead of roads, but fun nonetheless. The ride towards Srinagar is fairly good, with only a few stretches, but the view is worth it. You reach Srinagar in the evening and spend the night exploring the bustling city and the Dal Lake, post which the next day you are dropped off at the airport.
The best time to visit Ladakh on a motorcycle trip Manali to Srinagar is from April to September. During these months, the weather in Ladakh is dry and pleasant, with temperatures ranging from 15°C to 25°C during the day. The roads are open, and the weather is ideal for riding a motorcycle through the rugged terrain of Ladakh. However, it is important to note that even during these months, the weather in Ladakh can be unpredictable and it is important to acclimatize to the high altitude, as Ladakh is located at an altitude of over 3000 meters above sea level.
